On the occasion of Republic Day 2025, the Central Government announced the names of 942 personnel from police, fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD), and correctional services who have been recognized for their exceptional service and gallantry.
Among the 942 awardees, five individuals were posthumously honored for their bravery, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Himayun Muzzammil (Jammu & Kashmir Police), Head Constable Girjesh Kumar Uddey (Border Security Force), Constable Sunil Kumar Pandey (Central Reserve Police Force), Head Constable Ravi Sharma (Sashastra Seema Bal), and Selection Grade Fireman Satish Kumar Raina.
The total of 942 awards includes:
- 95 Gallantry Medals
- 101 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM)
- 746 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM)
Gallantry Awards
A total of 95 Gallantry Medals were awarded for acts of rare bravery, such as saving lives, preventing crimes, or apprehending criminals under risky circumstances.
- 28 personnel from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas
- 28 from Jammu & Kashmir
- 3 from the North-East
- 36 from other regions
Among the awardees, 738 police personnel and 17 fire service personnel received the Gallantry Medal for their courageous actions.
President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM)
A total of 101 PSM awards were granted to distinguished personnel:
- 85 from police services
- 5 from fire services
- 7 from Civil Defence and Home Guard
- 4 from correctional services
Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM)
The 746 MSM awards were given for exceptional service, including:
- 634 police personnel
- 37 fire service personnel
- 39 Civil Defence and Home Guard personnel
- 36 from correctional services
These awards recognize personnel for their distinguished and valuable service to the nation, demonstrating dedication, resourcefulness, and devotion to duty.
The recognition of these brave and committed individuals highlights their crucial role in ensuring public safety, security, and the nation’s well-being.
