A 21-year-old Indian student, Harsimrat Randhawa, was tragically killed after being struck by a stray bullet during a crossfire between two groups in Hamilton, Ontario, authorities confirmed.
According to Hamilton Police, the incident occurred while Randhawa was waiting at a bus stop on her way to work. She was caught in the line of fire during a shootout between occupants of two vehicles. CCTV footage from the scene reportedly shows a passenger in a black car firing at a white sedan before both vehicles fled the area.
Randhawa, a student at Mohawk College, was described by the Indian Consulate in Toronto as an “innocent bystander” who was “fatally struck” in the unexpected violence.
This marks the fourth death of an Indian national in Canada within the past four months. The spate of incidents has raised concerns within the Indian community and prompted the Indian government to urge its citizens in Canada to exercise caution, citing an increase in hate crimes and criminal violence.
Authorities in Hamilton have launched a full investigation into the shooting and are appealing for any witnesses or information related to the case.
