The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its alliance with National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections. The coalition includes the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United) (JDU), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
In a seat-sharing agreement, AJSU will contest 10 seats, JDU will field candidates in 2 seats, and LJP will contest the single seat of Chatra, while the BJP will contest the remaining 68 seats.
During a joint press conference on Friday, key leaders from the alliance, including State BJP President Babulal Marandi, AJSU Chief Sudesh Mahato, Union Minister and election in-charge Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressed the media.
Chouhan emphasized the unity of the NDA, stating, “In Jharkhand, BJP, AJSU, JDU, and LJP will contest the elections together. An agreement has also been reached on seat sharing, and candidates will be announced soon.”
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma provided details on the seat allocations for their allies, noting, “Currently, AJSU will contest 10 seats, JDU will contest 2 seats, and LJP will field candidates in one seat. There may be some adjustments on a few seats later, but this is the current arrangement.”
The Election Commission of India recently announced the election schedule for Jharkhand and Maharashtra. The 81-seat Jharkhand Assembly elections are set for November 13 and 20, with votes being counted on November 23.
In Jharkhand, approximately 2.60 crore voters are eligible to participate, comprising 1.31 crore male and 1.29 crore female voters, including 11.84 lakh first-time voters.
