Tensions escalated in Pakistan on Tuesday as supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan clashed with security forces, resulting in the deaths of four paramilitary personnel and two policemen, with over 100 security personnel injured. In response to the violence, the federal government deployed the army to Islamabad and issued shoot-at-sight orders to restore order.
The violence unfolded as Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), organized a protest march toward the D-Chowk area in the capital. Despite heavy security measures, PTI supporters attempted to remove barricades and pushed forward, demanding the release of their leader. The government, determined to prevent the protest from reaching its intended destination, vowed to take strong measures, including the possibility of imposing a curfew.
The violence reached a critical point late on Monday night when a vehicle rammed into a group of Pakistan Rangers personnel on the Srinagar Highway. According to Radio Pakistan, the attack resulted in the deaths of four Rangers officials and left five others injured, along with several police officers sustaining severe injuries.
As the situation continues to unfold, the Pakistani authorities are taking drastic measures to contain the unrest and prevent further violence.
