On Friday, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar made a surprising revelation, stating that a wad of currency notes was recovered by security staff from the seat allotted to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. According to Dhankhar, the currency was found in seat no. 222, assigned to Singhvi, after Thursday’s sitting of the House.
This claim sparked a wave of protests from the Opposition benches. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Chairman, stating that naming the MP before the completion of the investigation was inappropriate.
In response, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a Congress MP and advocate, denied any wrongdoing. He clarified that he only carries a single ₹500 note to Parliament and expressed his disbelief over the allegation, saying it was the first time he had heard such a claim.
Meanwhile, a group of Opposition MPs, led by Congress, staged a protest march within the Parliament complex, focusing on the Adani issue. The protesting MPs wore black masks emblazoned with the words “Modi Adani bhai bhai” and marched holding copies of the Constitution while raising slogans against industrialist Gautam Adani. The demonstration drew support from several leaders across the INDIA bloc parties.
