The much-awaited Maha Kumbh Mela has officially begun in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, after a gap of 144 years. This sacred event, which will last for 45 days, is set to draw over 45 crore devotees from around the world to the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers.
The world’s largest religious congregation kicked off on Monday, with a massive gathering of devotees participating in the first ‘Shahi Snan’ (royal bath) on Pauh Purnima. As per government reports, approximately 60 lakh devotees took part in the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam at 8 am, marking the start of this grand event.
Devotees from all corners of India and around the globe have started pouring into Prayagraj, eager to take part in this spiritual journey. The state and central government officials are working in unison to ensure that the event is a success and that devotees have a safe and fulfilling experience.
To accommodate the influx of pilgrims, the ITDC has set up 80 luxury tents at the tent city in Prayagraj, and the IRCTC is also providing luxury accommodations for tourists. The 2025 Maha Kumbh is a perfect blend of spirituality and modern technology. AI-enabled cameras, PAC teams, and NDRF/SDRF teams have been deployed on 700 flagged boats to ensure the safety of the devotees. Additionally, remote life-saving buoys have been placed at strategic locations across the river.
The Culture Ministry has created a vibrant cultural space called ‘Kalagram’ at the Kumbh Mela site to celebrate India’s rich art, culture, and heritage. The event will also feature live performances by renowned artists such as Kailash Kher, Shankar Mahadevan, and Kavita Krishnamurthy, among others.
With the combination of spiritual fervor, modern safety measures, and cultural extravaganza, the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 promises to be an unforgettable experience for all.
