In a significant move, the Assam government has announced a new decision regarding the linkage of Aadhar cards with the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The state government has made it clear that applicants and their families must have applied for the NRC in order to obtain an Aadhar card. If an individual or their family has not applied for the NRC, their Aadhar card application will be rejected.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the decision, emphasizing that applying for the NRC is now a mandatory requirement. Those who have not submitted their NRC applications will not be issued Aadhar cards, a measure aimed at strengthening the NRC process.
This move is expected to further intensify the scrutiny of residents in Assam, ensuring that only those registered in the NRC will be eligible for an Aadhar card, in line with the state’s ongoing efforts to address issues of citizenship and illegal immigration.
