Chilkapalli, a remote village in Chhattisgarh, has just marked a significant milestone by receiving electricity for the first time since India’s independence. Situated about 50 km from Bijapur district headquarters, this village had been living without electricity for decades, until now.
This electrification comes under the Chhattisgarh government’s Niyad Nellanar Yojana, aimed at providing essential amenities to tribal villages in remote areas. Chilkapalli is the sixth village in Bijapur district to receive electricity through this initiative.
Bijapur Collector, Sambit Mishra, expressed his happiness at the progress, stating, “It is a matter of great joy that electrification took place in Chilkapalli village on January 23. This is the sixth village where we have completed electrification, and we hope to electrify more villages in the coming months.”
The Niyad Nellanar Yojana is part of the state’s plan to transform tribal villages into “ideal villages,” providing basic services like electricity, drinking water, roads, bridges, and schools. For the residents of Chilkapalli, the arrival of electricity has brought major improvements in their everyday lives.
Until now, the village had no paved roads, and traveling there was difficult. It took about 3-4 months for the electricity department to complete the work, despite the challenges of the area’s difficult terrain.
Additionally, the village, previously affected by Naxal issues, now enjoys a sense of security due to the presence of CRPF forces, which have helped remove the shadow of Maoism from the region.
This milestone is a part of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s commitment to providing essential services to remote villages and eradicating Maoism, which he described as “cancer to society.”
