The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, of the Election Commission of India, has officially announced the dates for the highly anticipated Delhi Assembly elections. Voting for all 70 seats will be held in a single phase on February 5, 2025, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8.
This election will be the first major one of 2025, marking a significant political event in the national capital.
With the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has now come into effect in Delhi. The city has been in election mode for a while, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress all actively preparing for the contest.
The total number of voters in Delhi stands at 1,55,24,858, comprising 83,49,645 men, 71,73,952 women, and 1,261 third-gender voters. Among them, 24,44,320 senior citizens are eligible to vote, with 2,77,221 individuals aged 80 and above.
As the city braces for the polls, all eyes are on the major parties competing for the 70 assembly seats.
