Vinesh Phogat, a former Olympian wrestler turned politician, won the Julana constituency by more over 6,000 votes on Tuesday. Notably, the party last won this seat in 2005. Phogat’s victory is remarkable since the grand old party managed to reclaim the seat after 19 years.
Among noteworthy contenders, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Vinesh Phogat, Udai Bhan, and Independent candidate Savitri Jindal were leading in their respective seats. However, senior BJP leader Anil Vij, INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala, and JJP’s Dushyant Chautala were all trailing.
