In Hyderabad, Telangana, a retired Army officer is accused of killing his wife, dismembering her body, boiling the pieces in a pressure cooker, and then disposing of them in a lake. According to the authorities, the crime was discovered when the woman’s parents reported her missing.
On January 18, the parents of the victim, 35-year-old Venkat Madhavi, reported him missing to the Meerpet Police Station, citing suspicions of foul play.
However, information about the crime was discovered while investigating the complaint. Gurumurthy was suspected by the police of killing his wife, dismembering her body, and trying to obliterate the evidence by boiling some of it in a pressure cooker.
A Prakasam district native and former Army soldier, Gurumurthy worked as a security guard at Kanchanbagh.
He and Madhavi, together with their two kids, resided in Jillelaguda, Hyderabad.
Gurumurthy allegedly dismembered Madhavi’s body and placed the pieces in a gunny bag, which he then dumped into the Chandan Lake region close to Jillelaguda, according to police department officials.
Gurumurthy claimed to have slain his wife on a spur of the moment when she insisted on going to her hometown of Nandyal, according to the police.
The corpse has not yet been located, though, and an inquiry is underway.
