Indore’s district authorities are set to enforce strict measures to eliminate begging from the city. Beginning from January 1, 2025, residents who give alms to beggars will face legal action, as per an order issued by the administration. This was announced by District Collector Ashish Singh during a press briefing on Monday.
To prepare the public for the new rules, an ongoing awareness campaign will run throughout December, informing residents about the changes and urging them to refrain from giving alms. The administration has stressed the broader implications of supporting begging, aiming to discourage this practice.
In recent months, authorities in Indore have uncovered organized begging gangs and have taken steps to rehabilitate individuals who were coerced into begging. This initiative is part of a larger effort to combat the issue of begging in the city.
Indore’s actions align with a pilot project by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, which aims to make 10 cities in India beggar-free. Indore is one of the selected cities for this project, marking a significant step toward a cleaner and more organized city.
