On Saturday, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) claimed that its center in Dhaka district, Bangladesh, was set ablaze earlier in the day. The attack is being described as a targeted assault on members of the Vaishnavite community.
Radharamn Das, Vice President of ISKCON Kolkata, informed that vandals set fire to idols inside the temple at the Namhatta property. He stated that the fire was initiated by lifting the tin roof at the back of the temple and using petrol or octane to ignite it. The address of the affected site is H-02, R-05, Ward-54.
Das expressed concern over the ongoing attacks on the community and highlighted that the police and local administration have not taken sufficient action despite repeated complaints. He emphasized that even after ISKCON brought the matter to the attention of Bangladesh’s interim government, the situation remains unresolved.
ISKCON India has raised alarms over the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh, advising its monks and followers to refrain from wearing “tilaks” and to practice their faith discreetly. The targeted attacks against the community persist.
The situation has worsened with the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu community leader, who has been denied bail following violent attacks. Since the installation of the interim government in August, ISKCON properties across Bangladesh have been subjected to repeated assaults.
ISKCON Kolkata has called for greater protection for Hindus in Bangladesh amid escalating violence.
