Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, is set to lead an Indian delegation to the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair, scheduled for April 18–19 in Kuala Lumpur. The visit is part of the ASEAN-India Tourism Professionals Exchange Programme 2025, as confirmed by a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.
The initiative comes after the 21st ASEAN-India Summit last year, where 2025 was declared the ASEAN-India Year of Tourism. The programme is being organised in collaboration with the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) under the ASEAN-India Fund.
The Ministry highlighted that the event will aim to promote India’s tourism potential, placing a special emphasis on North-East India. A wide range of stakeholders, including tour operators and tourism professionals, are expected to participate in the event.
During his visit, the Minister is also expected to engage in bilateral meetings and interact with prominent business leaders and members of the Indian community in Malaysia.
MATTA, the national representative body for Malaysia’s travel industry, currently has over 2,900 member organisations, including local and international tour operators. With its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and chapters across several Malaysian states, MATTA works closely with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) and the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) to organise fairs, seminars, and events that promote tourism awareness and benefit industry stakeholders.
