Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. Running from December 6 to 8, this vibrant three-day event celebrates the rich culture of Northeast India, offering a dynamic platform to showcase the region’s textiles, traditional craftsmanship, tourism potential, and Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products.
During the inauguration, PM Modi toured various pavilions, interacting with artisans and craftsmen as they displayed their unique products, emphasizing the region’s cultural richness and economic potential.
Also present at the ceremony was Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region.
This year marks the first-ever celebration of the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, which aims to highlight the diverse cultural tapestry of the Northeastern states. The festival brings together a wide variety of traditional arts, crafts, and practices, and focuses on promoting economic opportunities in sectors like handicrafts, handlooms, agriculture, and tourism.
The festival features a variety of events, including artisan exhibitions, where visitors can explore handcrafted products from the region, and Grameen haats (rural markets) that offer a glimpse into traditional rural commerce. There are also state-specific pavilions, each showcasing the unique culture, crafts, and products of different Northeastern states. Additionally, the festival includes technical sessions focused on key areas crucial to the development of the Northeastern region, offering valuable insights into economic and cultural growth.
A key highlight will be the design conclave and fashion shows, showcasing the region’s handloom and handicraft traditions on a national stage.
The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav will also present a vibrant musical lineup and offer a taste of indigenous cuisines, further emphasizing the diversity and cultural heritage of Northeast India.
This grand festival not only celebrates the region’s unique traditions but also underscores its potential for economic growth and cultural exchange.
