Oil India Limited – Pipeline Services successfully hosted the Saksham Cyclothon today across three major cities in Assam – Guwahati, Nagaon, and Tezpur, as part of the nationwide Saksham initiative. The event saw enthusiastic participation, with over 250 cyclists in Guwahati, and more than 100 participants in both Nagaon and Tezpur. The cyclothon aimed to raise awareness about fuel conservation, sustainable mobility, and environmental protection.
In Guwahati, the ride was flagged off by Shri JPP Das, Executive Director of PLS, along with Shri Arunjyoti Baruah, Chief General Manager (HR&A), PLS, and special guest Ms. Richa Chetry, an Assamese actress, model, and influencer. Local cycling and environmental activist Mr. Kaushik Guha led the ride, inspiring participants to embrace cycling as a sustainable mode of transport.
The Saksham initiative also hosted a Walkathon on February 16th as part of the ongoing campaign.
In Tezpur, Mr. Simanta Saikia, Vice President of the Sonitpur Cycling Association, attended as Chief Guest, urging citizens to adopt eco-friendly commuting practices. The Tezpur event saw a collaboration with local cycling group Miles With Cycles, who helped mobilize cyclists.
Meanwhile, in Nagaon, Dr. Smarajit Ojah from Nagaon Girls College and Mr. Benris R Hrangkhol from Nagaon Wildlife Division were the Guests of Honour. They highlighted the importance of fuel conservation and environmental protection through cycling. Nagaon Cyclists, another local group, partnered with Pedal for a Change to organize the event in the city.
The cyclothons across these cities were managed by Pedal for a Change, a Guwahati-based non-profit organization focused on cycling advocacy and environmental sustainability.
