The premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on December 4 turned tragic as a stampede broke out during a massive crowd surge to catch a glimpse of lead actor Allu Arjun. The chaos led to the death of 39-year-old Revathi, a resident of Dilsukhnagar, and left her 9-year-old son, Sri Tej, in critical condition.
Revathi, accompanied by her husband Bhaskar and their two children, Sri Tej and 7-year-old Sanvika, had come to watch the eagerly awaited premiere. As soon as Allu Arjun arrived at the venue, fans rushed in a frenzy to see him, triggering the stampede.
Amid the panic, Revathi and her son lost consciousness. Authorities swiftly transported them to Durga Bhai Deshmukh Hospital in Vidyanagar, where Revathi was declared dead on arrival. Sri Tej, who was in critical condition, was later moved to KIMS Hospital in Begumpet for further treatment. Revathi’s body was subsequently transferred to the Gandhi Mortuary.
The chaos erupted around 10:30 pm, when Allu Arjun made a surprise appearance. Despite heavy police presence, the crowd proved difficult to control, escalating into a stampede. Authorities attempted to manage the situation, with some reports indicating a mild baton charge to disperse the crowd.
After the screening, Allu Arjun left the venue under tight security, briefly waving to fans from his vehicle’s sunroof and urging them to clear the way for the cars to pass.
The incident highlights the dangers of overcrowded events, even with security in place, as the overwhelming demand to see the actor turned deadly.
