A tragic accident occurred in the Wagholi area near Kesnand Phata Chowk early Monday morning when a dumper truck ran over people sleeping on the footpath. The incident, which took place around 1 am, left three dead and six others injured.
The driver, identified as Gajanan Shankar Totre from Nanded, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when the crash happened. The victims, including two toddlers and a man, were part of a group of laborers and their families from Amravati, who had recently arrived in Pune looking for work.
The deceased have been identified as Vishal Vinod Pawar, Vaibhavi Ritesh Pawar, and Vaibhav Ritesh Pawar. The injured were initially treated at Inox Hospital and later transferred to Sassoon General Hospital for further care. The bodies of the deceased have also been sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem.
The incident has shocked the local community, and police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.
