A prank video in Navi Mumbai intended to promote laptop sales caused widespread panic after it showed what appeared to be a lifeless human hand hanging from the boot of a moving car. The video, filmed on Monday evening in Vashi, quickly went viral on social media, alarming commuters and prompting a swift response from the authorities.
The footage was recorded by a concerned driver traveling behind the car. It appeared to show a dead hand dangling from the trunk, raising suspicions of a possible crime. Once the clip caught the attention of law enforcement, the Navi Mumbai Police and Crime Branch launched an immediate investigation. Using the car’s license plate, officers traced the vehicle to Ghatkopar within two hours.
Upon locating the car, police discovered that the hand was part of a staged prank created by three young men and the driver. The group had been filming a promotional reel for a laptop store and admitted during questioning that the entire scene was scripted for social media content. However, authorities said the connection between the prank and the alleged laptop promotion remained unclear.
The incident has sparked concern over the growing trend of dangerous and misleading social media stunts, especially those that waste public resources and create unnecessary fear among citizens.
