A new political controversy has erupted after the BJP criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for reportedly traveling to Vietnam to celebrate the New Year, just days after the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya accused Gandhi of being insensitive in a post on X, stating, “While the country is mourning Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s demise, Rahul Gandhi has flown to Vietnam to ring in the New Year.”
Malviya went further, alleging that the Gandhi family and Congress held animosity towards Sikhs, referencing Operation Blue Star in 1984 and accusing the Congress leadership of desecrating the Darbar Sahib. This remark was made despite Dr. Manmohan Singh being the first Sikh Prime Minister of India and a key figure in the Congress Party.
The controversy also follows a BJP criticism of the Gandhi family for not being present to collect Dr. Singh’s ashes after his funeral. In response, Congress clarified that they deliberately refrained from joining the ashes immersion to give privacy to Dr. Singh’s family during their time of mourning.
As the debate continues, Congress has dismissed the BJP’s allegations, calling them a diversion from the Centre’s handling of the funeral arrangements.
