In a significant move against illegal migration, the Delhi Police arrested and deported a Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Bablu, on Thursday, who had been living in India with forged documents. Bablu was apprehended in the Vasant Kunj area, where he was residing without valid paperwork. The swift deportation was carried out with the assistance of the Foreigners Registration Office.
This arrest is part of a larger crackdown that has led to the arrest and deportation of at least 30 Bangladeshi nationals over the past three days. The operation follows a directive from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, aiming to verify the legal status of migrants in the capital and deport those found to be residing illegally. The drive, set to last for two months, is part of Delhi’s commitment to tighter border control and enforcement of immigration laws.
Just a day prior to Bablu’s arrest, the Delhi Police deported 11 other Bangladeshi migrants. In a related development, a police operation uncovered a gang that had been helping illegal immigrants obtain fake Aadhar cards and other government identification documents. Four members of the gang, including two Bangladeshi citizens, were arrested for operating a counterfeit website that issued fraudulent birth certificates and documents to migrants.
The crackdown also saw the detention of eight Bangladeshi nationals from the Rangpuri area on December 29. Among them, one migrant, Jahangir, revealed how he entered India through unofficial routes and used fake identities to bring his family along. Earlier, on December 27, the police raided various slums, labor camps, and unauthorized colonies in South Delhi, resulting in the arrest and deportation of seven more Bangladeshi nationals, including five women, who had been living in Gurugram’s Rajeev Nagar without proper documentation.
These actions highlight the Delhi Police’s continued efforts to enforce immigration laws, ensuring the identification and deportation of illegal migrants from the region.
