In a Cabinet meeting held on January 1, the Assam government approved major road and water infrastructure projects amounting to nearly Rs 419 crore, aimed at boosting connectivity and improving essential services across the state.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saw the green light given to several key initiatives focused on rural development and urban infrastructure enhancement.
One of the key decisions made during the meeting was the approval of 104 projects worth Rs 210.8 crore aimed at improving rural connectivity and infrastructure. These projects will benefit residents across 12 districts in Assam, enhancing transportation and access to essential services in rural areas.
In addition to road development, the Cabinet also approved a significant investment of Rs 207.92 crore for drinking water supply projects in urban centers, including Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, and North Lakhimpur. These initiatives will be funded through the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF), focusing on improving the delivery of potable water to urban populations.
The meeting also saw the approval of a new system for the mutual transfer of Grade III and IV employees through an online portal. This step is expected to streamline the transfer process and make it more efficient for government employees.
Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the Assam Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Rules, 2024. This amendment is aimed at simplifying and streamlining the registration processes for births and deaths, ensuring smoother and faster registrations for the public.
These approvals mark a significant step forward in Assam’s development, addressing both rural and urban infrastructure needs while also focusing on enhancing administrative efficiency.
