In a bold move ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress Party announced its new scheme aimed at empowering women – the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’. If voted to power, Congress promises to provide Rs 2,500 per month to eligible women across Delhi.
The scheme is modeled after successful initiatives like the ‘Ladli Behna’ in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. By introducing this program, Congress aims to appeal to women voters and address the financial challenges faced by many households in the city.
Shivakumar, the senior Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, assured voters that the scheme would be implemented immediately upon Congress forming the government. He emphasized the party’s commitment to women’s welfare and its focus on social issues.
This announcement comes as a counter to the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) similar proposal, the ‘Mahila Samman Yojna,’ which promises Rs 2,100 per month to eligible women voters in Delhi. The Congress scheme aims to offer more financial support, setting the stage for a fierce electoral competition between the two parties.
The ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’ is a central pillar of Congress’ election manifesto in Delhi, aiming to forge a strong connection with women voters. The party sees this initiative as key to addressing economic challenges faced by women in the national capital.
The announcement is seen as part of the ongoing battle between the Congress and AAP for the women’s vote in Delhi, setting up an interesting electoral contest as both parties seek to woo the electorate.
In addition to the financial assistance, AAP has also unveiled a Sanjeevani scheme to provide free healthcare to senior citizens.
As election campaigns heat up, all eyes are on these welfare schemes, which could have a significant impact on the outcome of the upcoming Delhi elections.
