Delhi Airport Terminal 2 will undergo extensive renovations starting in April for approximately six months.
The terminal was built 40 years ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
It is undergoing a major renovation led by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), managed by GMR Airports Limited.
The renovation will modernise key areas of the terminal and surrounding infrastructure to ensure that T2 remains a premier facility in the global aviation landscape, meeting the evolving needs of passengers and supporting the airport’s continued growth.
The renovation of Terminal 2 is part of DIAL’s commitment to creating a world-class hub for travellers across India and South East Asia. The terminal and its apron have been serving passengers for over four decades and, given the rapid increase in air traffic, comprehensive modernization is essential.
The refurbished T2 will get new passenger boarding bridges. The Aerobridges will have autonomous docking technology, the first of its kind in India. Modern ceilings and skylights for a more attractive environment. Advanced flooring and better road connectivity for the convenience of passengers.
The improvements will help in meeting the expected increase in domestic passenger numbers, with DIAL predicting that it will reach its maximum passenger capacity by FY 2025-26. With the terminal’s passenger capacity expected to peak in FY 2025-26, these upgrades will be critical to meet the growing demand for air travel, particularly for domestic passengers. “This initiative is an important part of DIAL’s long-term strategy to make Delhi Airport a premier hub for domestic and international travellers,” said DIAL CEO.
The renovation work is expected to commence in the new financial year (FY 2025-26) and is expected to be completed by Q2 2025-26.
Terminal 2 will be temporarily closed for approximately 4-6 months to complete these upgrades. The temporary closure of Terminal 2 is expected to result in minimal disruption to operations as the newly developed Terminal 1 will absorb the additional load, ensuring continued service to passengers.
