In a significant development, the Tripura government has demanded the repayment of Rs 135 crore in electricity dues as per the power trade agreement made through NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd from Bangladesh. The amount, which was paid through NTPC, has remained unpaid by Bangladesh for the past year, leading to a sharp increase in the outstanding balance.
The Tripura government has insisted on the prompt settlement of these dues, especially after incidents of anti-India activities. The demand follows a series of tensions, including the alleged attack on a bus traveling from Agartala to Kolkata.bdfhbfd
Adding to the strain, power supply to Bangladesh was halted in May 2024 due to the delayed payments. Authorities have made it clear that until the dues are cleared, further supply will not be resumed.
This situation highlights ongoing tensions between the two regions, with Tripura pressing for a swift resolution of the financial issue.
