In a dramatic rescue operation, seven Indian fishermen were saved from a Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) vessel after a two-hour chase by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) off the Gujarat coast. The incident occurred on Sunday, near the maritime boundary between India and Pakistan.
The fishermen, who were aboard the Indian fishing boat Kal Bhairav, had been apprehended by the PMSA after their boat was damaged and sunk. They were then held on the Pakistani vessel, PMS Nusrat, near the maritime boundary.
The Indian Coast Guard, on high alert and stationed near the boundary line, received a distress signal from the Indian fishing boat operating near the No-Fishing Zone (NFZ) in the afternoon. Acting swiftly, the ICG ship Agrim moved into action, initiating a pursuit of the PMSA vessel.
As the Indian Coast Guard ship closed in, the Pakistani vessel attempted to retreat. However, the ICG intercepted the PMSA ship and successfully persuaded the crew aboard to release the **seven Indian fishermen. The fishermen were then safely rescued.
The Agrim ship, with the fishermen on board, safely returned to Okha Harbour on Monday, marking the successful conclusion of the high-stakes rescue mission.
This operation highlights the vigilance and swift response of the Indian Coast Guard, which continues to play a critical role in protecting Indian fishermen and ensuring their safety in disputed maritime zones.
