Today marks the 16th anniversary of one of the deadliest terror attacks in Indian history – the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. On November 26, 2008, ten heavily armed militants from Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) launched a series of coordinated attacks across South Mumbai. Their targeted locations included some of the city’s most iconic locations: the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Leopold Cafe, Nariman House, and others.
For nearly four days, Mumbai was under siege as the attackers, armed with automatic weapons and grenades, created chaos and terror. The devastating attacks left 166 people dead, including 18 security personnel and 26 foreign nationals, with over 300 people injured
The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Oberoi Trident became battlefields, with courageous security personnel and hotel staff risking their lives to save guests.
At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), gunfire echoed through the station, leaving dozens of innocent commuters dead or wounded.
Nariman House, home to the Chabad Lubavitch community, was also targeted, with hostages taken and innocent lives lost.
As the nation remembers the victims and heroes of the 26/11 attacks, leaders from across India have paid their tributes. President of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and citizens from all walks of life have come together to honor the memory of those who lost their lives and the brave individuals who risked everything to save others.
On this solemn day, while the pain of that fateful night remains, we reflect on the strength, resilience, and unity that emerged in the wake of the attacks. It is a time to remember not only the lives lost but also the heroes – security forces, hotel staff, and ordinary citizens – who displayed immense courage in the face of terror.
