In a significant move, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared ‘The Sabarmati Report’ tax-free in the state. The announcement came after the film’s team, including lead actors Vikrant Massey and Raashii Khanna, met with Adityanath during a special screening in Lucknow on November 21.
The film, which portrays the tragic incident of the burning of the S6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra station in 2002, has also been granted tax-free status in Gujarat. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the exemption via X (formerly Twitter).
Based on the horrific event where at least 59 devotees returning from Ayodhya were killed, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ has sparked widespread discussions about the subsequent Gujarat riots. The film has garnered overwhelming support, not only from local governments but also from prominent political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other key leaders.
In addition to Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, the film has been declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Haryana, further cementing its political backing.
Recently, Union Health Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda attended a special screening of the film and congratulated the team for their efforts in bringing this crucial story to light.
