On 30th October 2008, precisely 16 years ago eighteen bomb explosions took place in several places in Guwahati as well as its neighboring areas. These bomb blasts had left a deep tinge of torment in the history of Assam which the state still strives to recover from. Since then Assam has been observing this day of immense tragedy and turmoil which still remains lucidly rooted on the minds of every individual who experienced this havoc unfold before them, as black day to pay tribute to those who had lost their lives to these sinister bomb explosions.
The bombings commenced before noon in different markets around the city of Guwahati which took the innocent lives of more than 81 individuals and left approximately 470 individuals acutely injured.
The mastermind behind all the explosions was NDFB’s Ranjan Daimary who made the residents of Assam witness the state turn into a horrendous sea of blood. The areas that witnessed the blasts were Ganeshguri, Panbazar, Kachari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Bongaigaon.
Every year people huddle around all the spots of bomb blasts and lit candles in the name of all the departed souls and offer condolence to their respected families who still grieve over the demise of their dear ones.
