In a notable recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts toward inclusive development and minority welfare, the Association of Indian American Minorities (AIAM) honored him in absentia with the prestigious ‘Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Global Peace Award for Minority Upliftment’. The award ceremony took place at an event held at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Maryland, as part of the association’s inaugural launch.
AIAM, founded with the mission of promoting unity among the Indian American community across the United States, commended PM Modi for his contributions to fostering inclusive development and supporting minority communities in India.
AIAM was inaugurated on Friday, with renowned Sikh philanthropist Jasdip Singh appointed as its Founder and Chairman. The organization also introduced a seven-member Board of Directors, representing various Indian minority communities. The board includes Baljinder Singh and Dr. Sukhpal Dhanoa (Sikh), Pawan Bezwada and Elisha Pulivarti (Christian), Dipak Thakker (Hindu), Juned Qazi (Muslim), and Nissim Reuben (Indian Jewish).
During the ceremony, Nissim Reuben, a Jewish Indian-American and a member of the board, highlighted India’s rich history of interfaith harmony and praised Prime Minister Modi’s efforts in strengthening ties with the Jewish community, further reinforcing the nation’s legacy of inclusivity.
AIAM’s work, guided by its leadership, aims to foster greater unity and understanding within the diverse Indian American community, further promoting peace and cooperation among different faiths.
