In a significant political development, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is leading the Wayanad by-election by an impressive margin of over 3 lakh votes, marking her electoral debut. As per the latest updates, Priyanka, contesting on behalf of the Indian National Congress, has secured 461,566 votes, with a lead of 304,920 votes over her closest competitors.
Her main contenders are CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri, who has garnered 156,646 votes, and BJP’s Navya Haridas, who trails with 84,499 votes.
The Wayanad constituency, previously held by her brother Rahul Gandhi, has become a focal point of national attention. Many are eager to see if Priyanka can replicate her brother’s success and secure a win. The district Congress leadership has estimated that Priyanka will garner nearly six lakh votes out of the 9.52 lakh votes cast.
Meanwhile, Sathyan Mokeri of the LDF is projected to receive around two lakh votes, and BJP’s Haridas is expected to secure approximately one lakh votes.
Wayanad is traditionally considered a Congress stronghold, though Mokeri’s performance in the 2014 elections reduced the Congress victory margin to just 20,000 votes, signaling a shift in local political dynamics. The ongoing bypoll has only intensified interest as voters, political leaders, and analysts eagerly await the final results.
As Priyanka Gandhi Vadra continues to lead, all eyes are on her as she makes her mark in the Indian political landscape.
