The Adani Group has strongly denied allegations of bribery made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission. In a statement issued on Thursday, a spokesperson for the company called the accusations against the directors of Adani Green Energy “baseless” and affirmed that all necessary legal actions would be pursued in response.
The Adani Group also reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of governance, compliance, and transparency across all its operations, despite the ongoing allegations.
Adani Green Energy Delays Bond Offering Amid Allegations
In light of the accusations, Adani Green Energy informed stock exchanges that it had decided to postpone its planned US dollar-denominated bond offerings. This move comes after US prosecutors charged Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, and other executives in an alleged bribery scheme tied to a solar energy contract.
US Indictment and Charges
A five-count criminal indictment was unsealed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The charges linked prominent Indian executives, including Gautam Adani, to a bribery and fraud scheme. The indictment also charged former executives Ranjit Gupta and Rupesh Agarwal, along with Cyril Cabanes, Saurabh Agarwal, and Deepak Malhotra, for their involvement in the alleged scheme. The charges include conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
The Adani Group is expected to vigorously challenge these allegations as the legal process unfolds.
