In a tragic event reported from Madhya Pradesh, a dad fatally shot his 20-year-old daughter just four days before her wedding. The incident occurred in the Gola Ka Mandir neighborhood of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, following the daughter’s desire to marry someone else. The murder occurred during the wedding preparations, which were slated for January 18.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, about 9:00 p.m. Mahesh Gurjar, the accused, allegedly shot his daughter Tanu Gurjar in front of police officials.
The victim publicly protested her family’s arranged marriage, professing a wish to marry the man of her choice.
Allegedly angry over a video his daughter posted on social media earlier in the day, Mahesh shot her at close range using a country-made firearm.
Rahul, the girl’s cousin, allegedly acted as an accomplice to her father and fired extra shots, resulting in her death.
Tanu had produced a 52-second video and uploaded it on social media just hours before her death, accusing her family of forcing her into a marriage she did not want.
Tanu blamed her father, Mahesh, and other family members for her situation and expressed dread for her own life.
In her video, she mentioned about Bhikam “Vicky” Mawai, a man from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, who had been in a six-year relationship with Tanu.
Meanwhile, as the video spread, police officers led by Superintendent Dharmveer Singh rushed to Tanu’s residence to mediate between the two sides.
A community panchayat was also in session, aiming to settle the issue.
Tanu declined to stay at home for the intervention session, instead requested to be taken to a One-Stop Centre, a government-run initiative designed to assist women victimized by abuse.
However, claiming that he could persuade Tanu, her father insisted on speaking to her in private.
With the intervention taking a horrific turn, Mahesh, armed with a country-made firearm, shot his daughter in the chest. Simultaneously, Rahul fired shots that struck Tanu’s forehead, neck, and the area between her eye and nose.
Tanu collapsed immediately and died from her injuries. Mahesh and Rahul then turned their weapons on the police and family members, threatening further attacks. While Rahul managed to escape with the pistol, Mahesh was subdued and arrested.
