Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a successful three-nation foreign visit from November 16 to 21, during which he participated in 31 bilateral meetings and informal interactions with global leaders. His tour included visits to Nigeria, Brazil for the 19th G20 Summit, and Guyana, marking a significant diplomatic outreach on the global stage.
PM Modi began his tour in Nigeria, where he held a bilateral meeting with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This meeting aimed at strengthening India-Nigeria relations, particularly in sectors like trade, investment, and security cooperation.
The highlight of the visit was PM Modi’s participation in the G20 Summit in Brazil. On the sidelines of the summit, he held 10 bilateral meetings with key global leaders, including Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto, Portugal’s Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, and the UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer, among others. Notably, it was PM Modi’s first meeting with five leaders: Presidents Gabriel Boric of Chile, Javier Milei of Argentina, and Prime Ministers Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, Luis Montenegro of Portugal, and Keir Starmer of the UK.
In addition to these formal meetings, PM Modi had informal interactions with leaders from Singapore, South Korea, Egypt, the US, and Spain. He also met with the heads of major international organizations, including Ursula von der Leyen (European Union), Antonio Guterres (United Nations), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (World Trade Organization), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (World Health Organization), Kristalina Georgieva, and Gita Gopinath (IMF).
PM Modi’s visit to Guyana marked a historic engagement with the Caribbean region. In Guyana, he held 9 bilateral meetings with the leaders of Guyana, Dominica, the Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada, and St. Lucia. These discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and regional security.
This three-nation tour showcased India’s growing global presence and diplomatic outreach. From strengthening ties with Africa and Latin America to bolstering engagement with Caribbean nations, PM Modi’s foreign visit reinforced India’s role as a key player on the world stage.
