A small aircraft crashed into shops in the tourist city of Gramado, located in southern Brazil, on Sunday, killing all 10 passengers aboard. According to Brazil’s Civil Defense Agency, the plane struck the chimney of a home before colliding with the second floor of a building and finally crashing into a mobile phone shop in a largely residential area.
Gramado, nestled in the Serra Gaucha mountains, is a popular destination for Brazilian tourists. Known for its German and Italian immigrant heritage, the town is especially crowded during the Christmas season, drawing visitors with its festive decorations and holiday events.
The plane was piloted by Luiz Claudio Galeazzi, a Brazilian businessman traveling with his family to São Paulo State. The crash caused a fire, and 15 people were injured, most suffering from smoke inhalation. They were rushed to the hospital, with some reported in serious condition.
This tragedy occurred just days before Christmas, a time when Gramado is bustling with visitors and holiday festivities.
